The Sovereign Cruise Club website has been designed and constructed to be inclusive and to provide access to all visitors regardless of technological or physical disability.

Website Structure

A consistent Structure has been used throughout the website so visitors know exactly where to find the navigation, content and functionality. The structure of the website comprises of:

  1. Top Bar
    This includes The Sovereign Cruise Club logo, photos of cruise ships and destinations and the main navigation system. The navigation links provide access to the key areas and content of the website. Although the navigation links are images each one has a text description and an access key function.

  2. Content Area
    The central content area updates to present the page content that has been selected.

  3. Footer
    This contains links to the Term & Conditions, Privacy Policy and other statements. Also the site map and accessibility help page can be found here.

Accessibility Features

All the website page templates have been constructed with the objective of making information accessible to all visitors including those with disability. Described below are the aspects that have been addressed to acheive a high level of accessibility.

  1. W3C Compliance
    The website has been designed to comply with guidelines issued by the W3C/WAI. All page templates meet Priority Level 2 (AA) guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, which is the second highest level of conformance that can be acheived.All page templates have been Bobby approved to Priority 2 (AA).

  2. Access Keys
    Access key functionality provides access to key parts of the website navigational system. To use access keys follow the following guidelines:
    • For PC users, press the 'ALT' button on the keyboard plus the access key number or letter
    • For Mac users, press the 'Control' button on the keyboard plus the access key number or letter
    • Pressing the 'Enter' button on the keyboard, on both the PC or the Mac, will then take you to the page

  3. Tab Indexing
    Tab Indexing is the use of the tab button on a keyboard to navigate around the links in a web page. Every time the tab key is pressed the next link is selected. This is shown by a dotted line around the link text or image. Tab indexing is designed to make tabbing through the website easier and also to enable visitors to access the website only using a keyboard.
  4. Assistive Technology
    Visitors with disabilities use assistive technology to aid the use of websites and to complete tasks which would not be possible otherwise. Screen readers, text only browers and screen magnifiers are examples of assistive technology.

    Javascript language, which adds dynamic features to a website, is turned off for the use of Screen readers. The website has been designed to fully function even if the use of Javascript is switched off. Alternative functions have been added to the features that use Javascript to allow the complete use the website with assistive technology.
  5. Visual Design
    • Colours - the website has been designed with colours that provide a high contrast between foreground and background elements and the various features on the pages including headers, body text and links.

    • Images - all the interface images and pictures throughout the website have been assigned a 'Alt' description, which describes the contents or function of the graphic.

    • Links - all text links are identified with an underline as the mouse moves over them and other main links have been associated with an easily identifiable button.

    • CSS - style sheets have been used to format all the visual items and text on each page. This means that the text size can be changed within the browser by selecting 'View' and then 'Text Size'.

The website conforms to the latest W3C web standards for HTML and XHTML.
