AmaWaterways to Build Largest River Ship in Europe

The big news that AmaWaterways recently announced is that they will be building a new river cruise ship that will be the largest in Europe when it enters service in 2019.

The new ship will be called AmaMagna and it will sail popular itineraries along the Danube river.

AmaWaterways are hoping to attract regular ocean cruisers with this new vessel seeing as they are used to travelling on much larger ships than any of the river cruise vessels that exist in Europe today. In order to cater for these particular guests, AmaWaterways have decided to increase the width of the new vessel so it will be twice as wide as the current ships in their fleet.

In terms of passenger numbers, the new ship will accommodate a total of 194 passengers, which is an increase of 34 guests compared to AmaWaterway’s current ships in their fleet.

Due to the increase in size of the ship, it will give guests a wider range of culinary options to choose from as there will be more restaurants onboard including al fresco dining. There will also be a large aft deck that will boast more than enough room for thrilling water activities including kayaks and jet skis. AmaMagna will maintain AmaWaterways reputation of providing exciting activities and tours for all of it’s guests who want to get “actively” involved.

The co-owner of AmaWaterways, Rudi Schreiner, commented: “AmaMagna will provide guests with generous personal space, the freedom of multiple dining choices and exceptional stateroom comfort.”

They may always look to build more than one “mega river ship” depending on the popularity of AmaMagna when it sets sail in 2019.

  1. I have wanted to enjoy a river cruise, but being disabled and using a power chair, this pleasure has so far been denied to me. Will the AmaMagna be able to accommodate the disabled and their electric wheelchairs please?

    • Hi George,

I am pleased to advise that we have received a response from AmaWaterways regarding their new ship. They have advised us that the AmaMagna is still under development so they do not have this information yet, however guests can continue to bring their electric wheelchairs onboard all of their vessels as long as guests keep them in their staterooms. AmaMagna will most probably have an elevator that will reach the piano deck as well.

One important thing to note is that the destinations will still have their challenges with uneven streets, cobblestones and embarkation/disembarkation processes.

More information regarding AmaMagna will be released as we get closer to it’s launch date. I hope this helps answer your question in the meantime and if you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
