Luxury cruise line Ponant have confirmed an order for a new “ice breaking” vessel that is due for delivery in 2021.

The expedition ship will hold 270 guests and it will be 150 meters long, so the perfect size ship for accessing small, remote destinations that the larger ships cannot reach. The ship will be powered by liquefied natural gas as it sails around Greenland reaching the northeast area of the island.

Construction of the ship will take place at Vard Tulcea in Romania.

Ponant ships offer innovative itineraries to a variety of unique destinations┬ásuch as┬áSouth America, the Caribbean and Antarctica. The new “ice breaking” ship will invite guests to get closer to wildlife than ever before whilst discovering new cultures and traditions.

It is an exciting time for Ponant as they welcome two new ships in 2018; Le Laperouse and Le Champlain. This will be followed by two sister ships that will enter service in 2019.

We will be following the developments of Ponant’s incredible fleet expansion over the coming months so keep a look out for new blogs detailing this information.
