View Saga River Cruise Offers Saga River

If you're looking for a relaxing holiday where the scenery changes every day, then a river cruise aboard one of our exclusive-to-Saga chartered ships is the perfect choice.

As you arrive on board one of our exclusive-to-Saga charter ships you‘ll enjoy a welcome drinks reception with your friendly cruise escort to start your cruise in style. After getting to know your fellow guests you’ll make your way to your comfortable, well-appointed cabin, where your luggage is waiting to be unpacked.

As evening falls, you‘ll enjoy a sumptuous meal on board your ship as it slips serenely towards your first destination. The next morning, you’ll awake refreshed, ready to explore the new town that you've glimpsed from your cabin window.

Whats Included?

Take advantage of fantastic service and facilities onboard:

  • Cabin accommodation
  • Meals and snacks
  • Entertainment and activities (varies depending upon ship)
  • The services of at least one Saga cruise escort on board your ship, or a Saga tour manager
  • Saga cocktail party

In terms of travel, choose from the following options:

  • Return rail or coach travel within the UK mainland to London or your UK departure point
  • Free car parking near Folkestone Eurotunnel terminal or many airports, if you prefer to drive
  • Return economy flights (including all airport taxes fees and charges), plus any internal flights or return travel by coach and Eurotunnel or Eurostar, as specified
  • Return transfer between your overseas airport, train station, hotel and port (where applicable)
  • A visa, if required, if you are a full British citizen resident in the UK (except Russia)

A personalized service

Carrying less people than an ocean liner (usually no more than 200 passengers), you‘ll be able to enjoy a more personalized service on board a river cruise ship. As your cruise continues, it’s not unusual for some crewmembers to not just remember your name, but also how you like your coffee at breakfast time!

An adults-only environment

River Cruising tends to offer a more mature atmosphere, and if you cruise aboard ships that are reserved exclusively for Saga guests, the entertainment, itinerary and food will be tailored to you. (But remember, just because river cruises are ideal for adults, doesn't mean you have to act grown up!)

You're never too far from land

If you‘re more of a land lover, then a river cruise is still a great choice for you as land is always in sight! Rather than watching the endless rolling of the waves, you’ll be able to enjoy the gradual transition of beautiful scenery as you pass riverside towns, woodland and more.

Visit a variety of destinations, but unpack once

One of the key advantages of a river cruise is that you can explore many towns and cities - sometimes travelling through a number of countries - without the need to unpack at every destination. You'll have more time to make the most of the sights and life on board.

Moor in the heart of the action

For many centuries, the rivers have been the lifeblood for the growth of bustling communities and new cities, so you‘ll find many of the most famous places in the world are situated near a river. So it’s easy to explore the musical heritage of Vienna, discover the history of Budapest, or soak up the culture in Paris from your ship!

Itineraries created with you in mind

Our expert Holiday Creators know the world's waterways very well, and love to create itineraries that combine the must-see sights with hidden gems they have discovered. We offer river cruises along the Danube, Rhine, Seine and the Volga, to name but a few, so you are sure to find the perfect river cruise for you.

A casual and comfortable environment

What could be more relaxing than sitting back on a Sun Deck with a refreshing drink as the scenery slowly slips by? We want your river cruise to be as laid-back as possible, which is why we have a casual dress code on board, though you will need to dress a little smarter for dinner in the evening.

There are so many fascinating ports of call to visit on our River Cruise itineraries, which is why we provide a variety of excursions that showcase the best a destination has to offer.

On many cruises we include some excursions in the price, such as city tours that introduce you to the main sights, or visits to famous landmarks. We also provide a great selection of optional excursions throughout each cruise, so you have the freedom to explore the places you want to in greater depth.

Dutch and Belgian Waterways

Keukenhof Gardens

Over seven million spring bulbs bloom in Keukenhof Gardens‘ 32 hectares, filling the air with perfume and offering stupendous displays. It claims to be the most beautiful Spring garden in the world and here you’ll see a mass of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils set in beautifully landscaped grounds. Of course the show of blooms is weather dependent, but they're normally in flower for eight weeks from mid-March to mid-May. You can also find out more about garden design trends and get ideas from seven inspirational gardens.

Rhine and her tributaries

Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music

This evening you can visit this whimsical Museum in Rüdesheim with its eccentric collection of over 350 self-playing instruments, including music boxes, barrel organs and early jukeboxes.

The Danube

Danube Delta exploration

The meandering river bends, idyllic green reed beds and groves of willow, oak and poplar are not only pretty to look at, but also provide sanctuary for over 300 species of bird - including pelican, great crested grebe and kingfisher. To take a closer look at this glorious natural environment you can join a trip on a smaller boat through the channels and wetlands of the delta.

The Elbe and Oder

Sandstone Mountains

Enjoy an excursion to the impressive Sandstone Mountains, with refreshments included. The beautiful National Park of Saxon Switzerland, south-east of Dresden, is characterised by rock formations sculpted by erosion, sandstone cliffs, deep valleys and rugged gorges. Around three-quarters of this landscape, unique in central Europe, is in south-eastern Germany with the rest in north Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The Elbe river winds through the mountains in a steep and narrow valley.
