Luxury cruise company Scenic Tours have conducted the steel cutting for their first ocean cruise ship Scenic Eclipse.
Scenic Eclipse will be the world’s first discovery yacht when it enters service in 2018.
Chairman of Scenic Tours, Glen Moroney, has commented: “It’s an extremely exciting day for us. About six years ago, what you see behind us, was just a dream. Four years ago we started the planning in earnest seriously; and 12 months ago we signed a contract. There has been a huge amount of work put in not only by our own team but the yard.”
The ship will act as an expedition ship as it does have an ice class rating of Polar Class 6, allowing it to navigate challenging seas in the Arctic and Antarctica. It will accommodate 228 passengers and it will weigh a total of 16,500 tons. Further details regarding Scenic Eclipse are viewable here.
