We are pleased to announce that The Sovereign Cruise Club charter boat was the first boat to welcome Cunard’s illustrious New Queen Elizabeth on her Maiden Arrival into her homeport of Southampton early this morning.

In a tradition that includes the exciting maiden arrival of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria into their homeport of Southampton and QE2‘s sad final departure from her homeport, members of the Sovereign Cruise Club Team and invited VIP guests from Cunard Line’s own team in Southampton entered into the historic spirit of the event as they waved their Union Jacks whilst listening to patriotic music on board m/v Lady Louise. She was decked out with banners in Sovereign Royal Purple, with the message “The Sovereign Cruise Club Welcomes Queen Elizabeth” emblazoned down each side.

“We departed Ocean Village Marina in Southampton at 5.45 this morning and spotted the Queen Elizabeth off of the Isle of Wight at just after 6.30am. We were the first boat to greet her, she looked magnificent as she appeared out of the early morning mist. A number of our friends at Cunard, including Jonathan Leavor, Chief Purser and Zoe List from the Tour Office were on board QE taking photographs of us as we took photographs of them and the atmosphere was wonderful.

Queen Elizabeth is a wonderful addition to the Cunard fleet and from what we have seen so far a worthy successor to Cunard’s previous outstanding ships that bore the same iconic name. I cannot wait to see her Art Deco interiors after the Naming Ceremony on Monday. Her Majesty The Queen is naming the ship in what promises to be a very special occasion” said Stefan Shillito, MD of The Sovereign Cruise Club.

To top off a wonderful day for Sovereign and Cunard, Sovereign booked the last remaining space on QE’s Maiden Voyage this afternoon, a Q2 Queens Grill Suite that was a last minute cancellation. Sovereign booked this Suite for two very excited Cunard and Sovereign regular guests.
