Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to Lead Cunard’s 185th Anniversary Celebrations in Liverpool
Cunard is proud to announce that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will lead the company’s highly anticipated 185th anniversary celebrations in Liverpool on 27 May, marking nearly two centuries of distinguished maritime heritage.
The commemorative events will begin on 26 May with the arrival of Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, on the River Mersey—almost exactly one year since her historic naming ceremony in Liverpool, the cruise line’s spiritual home.
Cunard is deeply honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness aboard Queen Anne for her first official royal tour of the ship. Her arrival will be marked by a ceremonial performance from the British Army Band Catterick, setting the tone for a day of memorable celebrations.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness will pay tribute to Cunard’s 185 years of maritime excellence, the company’s deep-rooted connection with Liverpool, and the leadership of Queen Anne’s Captains, Dave Hudson and Inger Thorhauge.
The day’s celebrations will also include the official opening of Cunard’s Sea of Glamour exhibition at the iconic Royal Liver Building. This special event will feature Queen Anne’s Icons—five proud Liverpudlian women chosen to represent the city in a world-first as the ship’s Godparent.
Curated by acclaimed photographer Mary McCartney, the exhibition offers a stunning visual journey through Cunard’s legacy, capturing the glamour, grandeur, and cultural significance of life at sea across the company’s 185-year history.
