Seabourn have made a big announcement regarding the appointment of their new captain and hotel director for their upcoming ship, Seabourn Ovation.
The captain of Ovation will be Stig Betten and the hotel director will be Helmut Huber. The new ship is due to enter service in May 2018 so Betten will oversee all operations right from the start during it’s maiden voyage. Whereas the hotel department will be overseen by Huber; this includes housekeeping, suite accommodation, and food and drinks.
Stig Betten was born into a seafarer’s family as his father, grandfather and great grandfather all worked at sea, so it was only right for Betten to opt for a similar career when he joined Seabourn in 2001. He previously worked onboard the popular smaller ships of Seabourn; Pride, Spirit and Legend, which are no longer part of the Seabourn fleet. He worked his way up from Second Officer to Captain so he is very well known and respected amongst regular Seabourn guests.

Huber on the other hand, began his career as an assistant waiter in 1992 onboard various cruise ships. He worked his way up to being a manager and once he finished his university degree he went on to work in different positions in the Food and Beverage and Hotel Management sectors. When Huber joined Seabourn, he was appointed Hotel Director immediately in 2015.
The President of Seabourn, Richard Meadows, commented: “These gentleman are two seasoned professionals and they will be fantastic as we launch Seabourn Ovation. They both have years of luxury experience to guide them and our guests and crews have really enjoyed their distinct personalities during prior assignments on our ships. I’m confident they will do well as they provide leadership throughout the ship’s delivery and into the maiden season.”
We are pleased to hear the news of their future roles on the new luxurious Seabourn Ovation and look forward to seeing them onboard.
