The keel has been laid for Oceania Cruises’ newest vessel, Oceania Sonata, which is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2027.
The milestone was marked with a formal ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard, attended by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings President and CEO Harry Sommer, Oceania Cruises Chief Luxury Officer Jason Montague, and other senior executives and shipyard officials.

Oceania Sonata is the first ship in a new series of vessels planned for the luxury cruise line. The class will also include Oceania Arietta, slated for delivery in 2029, followed by two additional newbuilds currently scheduled for 2032 and 2025. Each ship in the series will accommodate 1,390 guests, maintaining Oceania’s focus on smaller, upscale ships.
In a statement, Oceania Cruises described the new ship as a significant evolution of its brand vision.
“This marks the beginning of a new chapter — one that is luxury orchestrated and luxury elevated — where design, craftsmanship, and experience come together in extraordinary harmony. Extravagant yet thoughtful. Sprawling yet intimate. Opulent, stunning, and deeply personal. Sonata is being created with a singular purpose: more than being cared for, you’re cared about.”
The new class is expected to introduce enhanced design elements and elevated guest experiences while continuing Oceania’s emphasis on refined luxury, destination-focused itineraries, and intimate ship environments.
