Oceania Cruises Marks Major Milestone with Steel Cutting for New Ship, Oceania Sonata™
Oceania Cruises®, the world’s leading culinary- and destination-focused cruise line, has officially begun construction on its newest ship, Oceania Sonata™, with a ceremonial steel cutting at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. This event marks a significant step forward for the brand, introducing the first vessel in its all-new Sonata Class and heralding a new chapter in refined small-ship luxury cruising.

Set to debut in 2027, Oceania Sonata will be followed by her sister ship, Oceania Arietta™. Designed to be the most spacious and amenity-rich ships in the fleet, both vessels will elevate the Oceania Cruises experience, continuing the line’s legacy of exquisite culinary offerings, immersive destination-focused itineraries, and exceptional service.
“Oceania Sonata heralds the dawn of a new era in luxury cruising,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “We are proud to continue our tradition of innovation alongside Fincantieri, our trusted shipbuilding partner for nearly two decades. Together, we are creating ships that exemplify luxury, elegance, comfort, and the finest Italian craftsmanship.”
When she launches in summer 2027, Oceania Sonata will become the ninth ship in the Oceania Cruises fleet. Her introduction continues the cruise line’s close collaboration with Fincantieri, builder of the acclaimed Oceania Marina™, Oceania Riviera™, Oceania Vista®, and Oceania Allura™, the latter of which is set to debut in July 2025.
