On December 11, 2024, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection hosted the christening of its newest yacht, Ilma, at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In keeping with maritime traditions, the ceremony featured a ceremonial blessing and the symbolic breaking of a Champagne bottle, a gesture signifying good fortune and safe travels for all who sail aboard the vessel.
The event was attended by notable leaders, including Jim Murren, Executive Chairman and CEO of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and Ernesto Fara, President and CFO, alongside representatives from Seafarers’ House at Port Everglades. Captain Magnus Bengtsson and General Manager Sasha Tyas of the Ilma were also present, joined by Father Sandford “Sandy” Sears, who performed the blessing.
A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of a group of female leaders from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, both shipboard and shoreside, who collectively served as the godmothers of the Ilma.
“This christening marks a pivotal moment for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection as we officially welcome the Ilma into our fleet,” stated Murren. “This extraordinary yacht represents our growth and an exciting future for our brand.”
Murren further expressed gratitude, saying, “We are incredibly thankful for the hard work and dedication of our team members and global partners who made this remarkable yacht a reality.”
The celebration, held aboard the Ilma at Port Everglades, welcomed employees from the company’s Fort Lauderdale office, local officials, and special guests.
Following its debut in the Mediterranean in September 2024 with voyages from Monte Carlo to Rome, the Ilma now joins the Evrima, the first vessel in The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection fleet. For the 2024-2025 winter season, the Ilma will offer Caribbean itineraries, exploring the region’s picturesque islands.
In summer 2025, the yacht will embark on its inaugural Northern Europe season, marking The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s first itineraries in the North and Baltic Seas. Ports of call will include iconic destinations such as Copenhagen, Reykjavík, and Bordeaux.
