Why QM2 is the best ocean liner in the world!

By Sovereign Cruise

RMS Queen Mary 2 is known as the most famous ocean liner in the world and there are many reasons for this.

This blog discusses what Queen Mary 2 has to offer and outlines the reasons as to why you should book a future voyage on this spectacular ocean liner.

Four team members at The Sovereign Cruise Club recently sailed on Queen Mary 2 as she completed a 2 night roundtrip Southampton voyage to Bruges. Detailed below are each of their personal reviews of the ship with recommendations guests interested in booking a voyage on Queen Mary 2.

Since RMS Queen Mary 2’s extensive remastering, you can clearly see how elegant she is from her amazing art deco design and the impressive grand lobby. This is what you are greeted with as soon as you step onboard the ship, along with a large number of friendly, welcoming crew members.

My favourite area of the ship was definitely the Canyon Ranch SpaClub. It is the perfect place to go if you are looking to relax and unwind from the norms of everyday life. It surprised me as to how well-equipped the Canyon Ranch SpaClub was, as you could easily compare it to a land spa as it consisted of 3 separate saunas all of which contained different aromas. I highly recommend purchasing at least a day pass to the Spa on your voyage as it is great value for money seeing as you have the flexibility to use the Spa facilities for as long as you want during the day.

The Britannia Restaurant was the highlight of the cruise as the maître d’ was able to move us from the early to the late dining sitting with no issue and also allocated us a window table which was fantastic. The waiters were all very pleasant in the restaurant and brought our courses out promptly. They even gave Amy the option to have both desserts rather than pick one as she wasn’t sure which dessert to opt for, this was very generous of them and this is the type of service that defines Cunard.

As the most iconic Ocean Liner in the world, I was really excited to experience RMS Queen Mary 2 and as we arrived in the port in Southampton I was stunned by the spectacle she created. We boarded for our sailing to Bruges and arrived in our Sheltered Balcony Staterooms which were lovely. I would recommend the Sheltered Balcony Staterooms to anyone as they boast large balconies and refurbished décor from the remastering last year.

After settling into our stateroom we decided to explore the ship, so we headed up to the top deck and worked our way down. We enjoyed an energetic game of paddle tennis on Deck 13 as we sailed out of Southampton and after tiring ourselves out we retired to the Godiva Café and indulged in the most impressive iced chocolate drinks and cakes I’ve ever experienced, this is a must do onboard if you have a true sweet tooth!

The décor onboard is beautifully grand. The art deco conveys the classic Cunard history and with the modern remastering it really does make a stunning combination which I thought was really impressive throughout the ship. It really did shock me as to how much there was to do onboard, ranging from the multiple pools to the fitness centre to Afternoon Tea in the Queens Room, but my favourite experience was the Canyon Ranch SpaClub which was the most tranquil place onboard with the aromatherapy sauna and the whirlpool spa we spent most of the day relaxing in there!

I was recently lucky enough to experience RMS Queen Mary 2 as my first ever cruise, which has set the bar very high for any future cruises. When we were driving in to the port in Southampton I was amazed by how grand and sophisticated the ship looked. When we embarked on the ship, there was a line of staff all immaculately dressed waiting to greet us all with huge smiles.

We were greeted with a nice surprise as we went into our stateroom as Cunard had provided us with complimentary champagne, so it was great to sit out on the balcony with a glass of bubbly! We spent a whole afternoon just wondering around, admiring everything that Queen Mary 2 has to offer. There was a really nice spot that we found at the aft of the ship to relax on the sun loungers and take in the sunny weather before our evening meal later that day.

We were lucky enough to dine in the Verandah Restaurant for the first evening. This is a speciality restaurant that offers guests contemporary French cuisine. We were very impressed with the service in this restaurant as all the waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and drink that they served. The food was superb and the atmosphere was sophisticated, yet calm and inviting. We had a total of seven different courses, all of which were amazing and of the highest quality. This was my favourite experience of the whole cruise as we got to dress up in our formal wear and dine in one of the best speciality restaurants at sea.

This was my third time on RMS Queen Mary 2 and I’m still amazed by how incredible this ship really is every time I see it. It is very evident as to why Queen Mary 2 is a fan favourite with so many experienced and new-to-cruise passengers as it really does cater for people of all ages with its wide range of facilities onboard.

I particularly enjoyed the evenings onboard as we all dressed up for the occasion and felt at home in such luxurious surroundings. Both meals in the Verandah and Britannia Restaurant were excellent and there is nothing negative to say about either restaurant. The food was some of the finest that I have ever had at sea with superb a la carte menus offering a wide range of diverse dishes to suit many tastes.

My favourite part of the trip has to be the nightlife. After our fantastic meal in the Verandah Restaurant on the first evening, we went to watch the West End calibre show that was on offer in the full-sized Royal Court Theatre. This show featured some incredibly talented singers and dancers that literally captivated the audience from the very start. The second night we went to G32 Nightclub where we danced the night away to some classic and contemporary songs. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this cruise and cannot wait until our next visit on this majestic ocean liner.
